SHAPING THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW

The design process and layouts for new elementary schools have greatly evolved over the last few years. It’s about more than planning classrooms to learn in and hallways to connect them.

The way the classroom and other spaces are organized and how they relate to each other have become increasingly important, and the amount of natural light and fresh air provided are now recognized as playing an integral role in a student’s learning experience. Aside from the flow and layout of a school, colours and textures chosen and materials used are recognized to greatly influence a child’s ability to learn and grow. Furthermore, designers are playing closer attention to how a school connects to the community it exists within. Open-mindedness on the part of designers and educators and a willingness to be inspired by ground breaking schools around the world are two meaningful keys in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
