AGING IN PLACE

Go back to Blog

The term aging in place describes a homeowner’s ability to continue living in his or her own home independently, regardless of age.

According to a recent survey by HomeAdvisor, aging in place requires a holistic approach to home improvement. By keeping a residence well maintained and tackling upgrades before they’re needed, individuals aged 55 and above can ensure they’ll comfortably remain in their homes for years to come. Nearly half of the homeowners surveyed stated they’d already completed improvements in preparation to help facilitate aging, such as simplifying landscaping, repairing or replacing windows, swapping out door handles and organizing storage areas. A shift toward safety over aesthetics was also noted by survey participants. Many of those interviewed also noted seeing an aging loved one struggle in their own home changed their feelings toward aging themselves.
