With Canadian communities starting to embrace alternative energies such as solar, events like

Edmonton’s Eco-Solar Home Tour are growing in popularity. This year’s tour featured 21 sites, ranging from a 4,000 square foot dream home to a converted shipping container home. One of the tour’s sites was the home of a family that had been on the tour in several years past.

So inspired by what they saw, the Kosowan’s decided to build their own solar-powered home, which also uses passive building techniques such as taking advantage of their southern exposure for heating purposes. The tour was about more than just homes as it also featured three churches, two office buildings and a community league. And eco-friendly home tours certainly aren’t reserved for the sunny prairie city alone. From coast to coast, cities and towns across the country are organizing open houses and events showcasing the latest in green energy and building.
